Scanning the Black Dragon

The battleship USS New Jersey – also known as the Black Dragon – was one of four battleships commissioned in 1939 for naval operations during World War II. It is the most decorated battleship in America’s naval history, serving in WWII and the Korean and Vietnam wars.

The Black Dragon was decommissioned in 1991 and now operates as a maritime museum, however, she continues to make history.

In an article for LiDAR Magazine, land surveyor Angus Stocking reveals how Leica Geosystems and geospatial services firm Haag 3D Solutions helped the legendary battleship with a full-scale scanning and documentation effort.
